My name is Steve and I've worked on Poser since very early in the Poser 2 development cycle. Aside from Larry Weinberg I don't know of anyone currently working on the software that has worked on it longer. Although I did take a "hiatus" to work at a start-up that was eventually sold to Microsoft. This was just prior to and during the Poser 5 release but I make no excuses. I have been a Poser "user" since about a week after the release of version 1 by Fractal Design. Someone at school bought it, and it was immediately copied illegally onto every machine in sight. I was hooked.
I was hired right out of school to work for Ray Dream Inc. Ray Dream Studio then became Cararra in 1998. My fingerprints are still proudly all over that product although I haven't touched it in years. Fractal Design bought Ray Dream, but before the acquisition, I was already working on Poser and Ray Dream Studio in tandem. Fractal Design was acquired by Metatools which became MetaCreations. Sometime in 1999 Metacreations, which had purchased Viewpoint, decided to sell off the graphics products. This included Poser. Egi.sys, a German company put up the money to purchase the Poser IP and start Curiouslabs. In 2005 e frontier Group of Tokyo Japan bought CuriousLabs and the Poser IP. Curiouslabs eventually became e frontier America Inc. I was subject to constant ridicule from friends and colleagues due to e frontier's unconventional use of lower case vowels. e frontier has recently been purchased by SMithMicro Inc. Yes that includes the Poser IP and me. I've been bought and sold more times that lame horse.
I now work for SmithMicro, however the purpose of the blog is not to market them or any other corporation. It's to promote goodwill towards the product and community that have paid my rent, and offered many of my life's ups and downs. I intend to keep it light, keep it fun, and will do everything I can to keep it interesting. If I misspell words or use bad grammar it doesn't mean that I don't like you. It just means that too I'm busy with other things.
Now about the blog; it's something I've wanted to do for a long time but have never had the nerve. I also try to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible and try to respect everyone's opinion of the software. My opinions are my own and yours are your own. If I don't post your opinion don't be offended. If it becomes an issue for you then there are a lot of places to blog for free. I have allowed screened comments on the blog and will pretty much let anything that's not downright nasty or personal through. As long as it's pertinent to the subject at hand. Poser criticism is OK as long as it's constructive and meant to help improve the product. Anything else should go in one of the frequent bashing threads on the forums. Praise is always good as long as it's not gratuitous and it reflects the subject at hand.
Questions posed in comments will possibly be addressed in future posts. That is if I have time and am able to answer. There will inevitably be things I cannot discuss. And there will probably be things that I will just not feel inclined to answer. But I will do my best to follow up in a timely manner and make this a place where valuable information is presented in a down to earth and enjoyable manner.
So this is about the software and the community. I hope to change the perception Poser and of the content that's created with it. I hope that it's for the better.
Enjoy!
